Develop a Vision for your life in 2024!

"I have a dream," said Martin Luther King Jr. He then went on to share his vision for the country.

Do you have a vision for your life? For your Family? For your ministry?

Today I took a book off my shelf called, Developing a Vision for Ministry in the 21st Century By Aubrey Malphurs and started re-reading it. I read it many years ago. I am reading it again, and want to share with you some things I learned about developing vision.

What is Vision?

"A vision is a clear and challenging mental picture of the future of a ministry as its leadership believes it can be and must be" ( 31).

The Four Benefits of a Clear Vision:

  1. Direction.

A clear vision gives a person or group a clear sense of direction. Where are we going? it answers.

2. Unity

A clear vision gives a family or group something to rally around. It gives them the sense: This is what we are going after together.

3. Motivation.

"Not much happens without a vision," Malphurs writes. How true. He goes on to say that vision not only provides the direction of your life it also provides the energy. If you are lacking motivation, could it be that you have lost a sense of vision?

4. Evaluation

Having a clear vision allows you to evaluate. Are we moving toward the vision or not?

Conclusion

I want to encourage you to carve out time this week and ask God these two questions Malphurs asks his coaching clients:

  • What do you see in your mind when you think about your life in terms of the future?

  • If God would grant you one wish concerning the future what would it be?

Also,

spend time reading through the book of Nehemiah and look for what it teaches on vision.
